"For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings."

📜 Today's Meditation

Hosea 6:6 is so significant that Jesus Himself quoted it twice (Matthew 9:13, 12:7). In Hosea's time, Israel appeared religiously vibrant. Sacrifices were abundant, and the smoke from burnt offerings never ceased. Yet God rejected it all. Why?

The Hebrew word "mercy" (hesed) is far more than kindness. It encompasses covenantal love, steadfast loyalty, and compassion. God desired this hesed, not ritual and ceremony. Faith that offered sacrifices while exploiting neighbors, that burned offerings while ignoring orphans and widows, was false.

"Knowledge of God" is not intellectual—it is relationship. The Hebrew word "know" (yada) implies deep intimacy, personal encounter. God longs not for our attendance or donations, but for genuine communion with us.

This Lenten season, ask yourself: Is my faith form or relationship? Is my worship duty or encounter? What God desires is not perfect religious practice, but sincere love and authentic fellowship.

🙏 Today's Prayer

Lord, forgive my formal faith. I have stood in worship and prayer while my heart was distant from You. Pour out the mercy You desire into my heart. I seek love over sacrifice, deep knowledge of You over burnt offerings. Renew my faith through genuine compassion for others and true fellowship with You. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
